Tax Day Tea Parties: Not A Significant New Movement

A new poll conducted by PoliticsHome.com shows a somewhat even partisan response on whether the Tax Day Tea Parties were considered a significant new movement. According to the poll, unsurprisingly it depends on the party affiliation in order to answer the question.

According to a new PoliticsHome poll, 54% of Americans do not believe the ‘tea parties’ are significant, while only 39% believe that they are.  “There’s no cohesive purpose and little impetus for further organization, but I’m sure attendees will find them very therapeutic," remarked one panelist.

Do you or do you not think the "tea parties" represent a significant new movement in American politics? Breaks by political leaning

The ‘tea parties’ appear to have become another partisan issue, sending the two sides to their respective corners. 81% of Republicans do see the ‘tea parties’ as a significant new movement; many noted that they would be attending ‘tea parties’ in their local areas.

85% of Democrats, on the other hand, disagree with their Republican counterparts. Many see the ‘tea parties’ as a “right wing stunt” rather than a legitimate grass-roots movement. Independents break slightly to agree with the Democrats.

PoliticsHome interviewed 1,635 Americans from the PoliticsHome OpinionAmerica panel by e-mail from 15 April to 16 April. Results are weighted to represent the United Stats politically.

This is an update to previous Tax Day Tea Parties articles I’ve written (here, here and here).
