Man Kills 2 Florida Sheriff’s Deputies, Disturbed by Election of Obama

Over the weekend I posted an article I wrote about a coordinated disinformation campaign and the radical right-wing extremist elements with a nefarious agenda. One of their hallmark calling cards is spreading the disinformation & fear that ‘____ (blank) will take away their guns’ (in this case, Obama). There is absolutely no proof of this. As a matter of fact, just today there’s an article in the Chicago Tribune regarding Obama putting gun control on the back burner:

Gun and ammunition sales have surged across the nation since Obama’s election because of fear that his administration will put additional restrictions in place. But at least so far, Obama and Democrats in Congress have given no indication that they will re-impose an expired ban on the sale of so-called assault weapons.

The disinformation campaign is aimed at whipping up & radicalizing fence-sitters on the issue of gun control, perhaps to increase weapon sales by the gun lobby, since there’s a whopping sales increase in guns & ammunition since Obama took office. Via Sky News in Australia (Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. fully owns Sky News):

[…]Seven million people have applied for background record checks with the FBI in the last few months so they can obtain a gun licence.

[…]The Guns and Ammo store in Manassas, Virginia, says it has seen a 50% rise in sales since November’s election.

[…]"Now we are seeing people who are getting their first gun because they are worried they will not be able to get them in the future."

[…]It has coincided with a series of shooting incidents across the country which have left more than 50 people dead.

Rooted in an irrational fear and fomented by neo-conservatives vis a vis right-wing media scaring up the ‘story’, today comes another chilling reminder to not take this danger lightly. This latest incident coming just weeks after the Poplawski murders in Pittsburgh, which killed three police officers – the first to die in the line of duty in that city in 18 years. Poplawski was allegedly a civilian white supremacist in a stunning expose article by The Village Voice:

Richard Poplawski’s buddy Eddie Perkovic told the press that his friend feared that President Obama would ban guns. Perkovic seemed to think this had some bearing on the crime for which Poplawski stands accused: the shooting deaths of Pittsburgh, PA police officers Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle and Paul Sciullo III.

According to the Associated Press, Poplawski was wearing a bulletproof vest and ‘laying in wait’ for the cops early Saturday when law enforcement responded to a domestic disturbance call at the residence Poplawski shared with his parents. Between SWAT teams who responded to the standoff that ensued after the initial gun battle and the shooter himself, more than 100 rounds were fired, overall.

For a person who does not generally watch or listen to any of these talk shows, this is most enlightening. I have heard Rush Limbaugh on occasion, so I know how paranoid
and dangerous he is, but this 18 minutes of clips from others like him demonstrates
how much those of us who think more rationally have to do to educate people who may
succumb to their scare tactics. Thank you for putting the time into to organizing this for
    our education, 7mesh.com

[...] I’ve recently written about the radical right wing being encouraged by political & thought leaders to resort to violence in order to express its political interests. For elected officials it’s also pandering of the worst sort, ever-increasing the rhetoric and dangerousness. I’ve also expressed increasing concern that these same “leaders” have abdicated their moral responsibility in calling for such a radicalized agenda (such as torture and others) subverting the rule of law.
